First Bus appoints military logistics expert to mastermind York operations
A logistics expert with a long career in the British Army has been appointed to lead the First Bus network and depot in York.
Steve Moyle joins as General Manager from the bus operator’s Bradford depot, where he worked for the past year.
He will oversee a team of team of managers, supervisors and assistants supporting a crew of over 200 drivers and a fleet of more than 80 buses, including the Park and Ride which First Bus runs jointly with City of York Council.
He said: “I’m committed to delivering safe, reliable and customer‑centred bus services across York and the surrounding areas, working closely with partner operators and City of York Council to shape a modern, efficient and future‑ready transport network.”
After serving for 30 years in the British Army, planning and delivering logistic operations around the world, Steve moved into the transport and distribution sector in Europe followed by Eddie Stobart haulage before joining First Bus.
He believes this strong blend of military discipline, commercial insight and people leadership will help to strengthen the operation.
Steve said: “My focus is to champion on‑time performance, improving both punctuality and reliability across all routes. In every business, there is always room for improvement and new challenges to overcome.”
The depot on James Street remains one of the few in the country to be verified as a net zero carbon operation since its full conversion to only operate electric buses. The fleet of 86 now saves around 5,000 tonnes of C02e every year.
“I want to contribute to a safer, more reliable and more resilient operation that delivers for both our customers and our people,” added Steve.
