First Bus Glasgow X25 2

First Bus announces half-price travel as it takes over Cumbernauld-Glasgow service

  • Adult return journeys at half price
  • New weekly travel options for adults and students
  • Services to begin on Easter Sunday 5 April
  • Weekly and monthly tickets bought from Stagecoach valid until 12 and 19 April

First Bus has announced discounted travel for adults making daily return trips on the Cumbernauld-Glasgow X25 and X25A services when the operator takes over the route from Easter Sunday 5 April.

Half price tickets will be available for the first month, making a return journey £3.75 or £4.15 for unlimited travel during the day. These promotional tickets will only be available by purchasing on the First Bus app or from the driver.

New, specially priced Weekly and 4-Weekly Cumbernauld Connect tickets for adults and students will also be introduced. These will be extended to the existing First Bus X3 service, further enhancing connectivity between Cumbernauld and Glasgow.

“We want to create an even warmer welcome for the route’s existing customers enjoying their first experience of travelling with us and encourage new users to see the benefits of using the bus,” said Commercial Director, Graeme Macfarlan.

Prices for child tickets will be set from the start with a single at £1.75 and £3.10 for a day’s travel.

Buses will operate on a 15-minute frequency through the day. The distance from Cumbernauld puts the service into First Bus’s network fares structure, which enables multiple trips on city and local routes with the appropriate ticket.

First Bus has also confirmed it will accept weekly tickets bought from the current operator, Stagecoach up to 12 April and 19 April for monthly tickets.

The buses will feature Tap on, Tap off (TOTO) technology, an enhanced contactless payment system that guarantees customers ultimate flexibility on the fare paid. It charges for the journey made but is capped at the price for a day’s travel, allowing multiple trips to be made with continued discounts for more days travelled during a week.

Graeme Macfarlan added: “Our services will bring a high quality journey experience and we’re confident regular customers will quickly realise the good value ticket options we have for this introductory period and future travel across a range of needs.”

Full details of the fares are available on the First Bus website https://www.firstbus.co.uk/greater-glasgow/news-and-service-updates/updates/x25-x25a-now-operated-first-bus
