Improving clarity, connectivity and coverage for bus services in and around Weston-super-Mare
Bus services in Weston-super-Mare and surrounding areas are being reshaped by First Bus this autumn to improve clarity, connectivity and coverage.
Among the changes are a clearer cross-town route in Weston-super-Mare that connects key destinations across the town, a new direct link to Bristol from south Weston, and restored Saturday buses for Bleadon Hill.
The changes take effect from Sunday 31st August 2025 as part of a region-wide timetable change delivered in consultation with North Somerset Council and the University of Bristol.
To make services in Weston-super-Mare clearer for customers, two existing Weston town services – the 7B and 7H – will be replaced by an extended version of service X5, creating a simpler and more understandable network. The extended service will run cross-town through Weston approximately every 70 minutes, Monday to Saturday, linking Bleadon Hill and Hutton with Clevedon and Portishead via Weston Hospital, Coronation Estate, Weston College and Worle. As a result, Bleadon Hill will regain a Saturday service, which had previously been unavailable.
X5 journeys from Weston will follow the former 7B route to Bleadon Hill before continuing to Hutton, while inbound journeys from Hutton will follow the old 7H route to Weston Interchange and then continue as the existing X5 to Clevedon and Portishead.
Following consultation between First Bus, North Somerset Council and the University of Bristol, the U2 service between Bristol and Langford will run through to Weston-super-Mare, creating a new direct link between south Weston, Banwell, Sandford, Churchill, and Bristol.
In Weston, the U2 will operate hourly, Monday to Saturday from the Helicopter Museum via Haywood Village, Oldmixon, Weston General Hospital, Coronation Estate, and Broadoak, continuing to the town centre. In conjunction with other services, this maintains four buses per hour between Weston Hospital and the town centre and increases bus frequency in Haywood Village and Oldmixon. The Sunday service will be withdrawn due to low usage, but the Falcon coach service operated by Stagecoach will continue to link Langford with Bristol on Sundays. In Bristol, U2 buses will now terminate at Bristol Bus Station, providing a more direct and convenient arrival point in the city.
Service X7 between Clevedon and Bristol will now run via Long Ashton on all journeys, incorporating the previous service X7a route, which will no longer operate. Buses will run every 70 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays, and hourly on Sundays, with the new timetable designed to improve punctuality and reliability.
In other changes, seasonal services 1 and 20 will have their usual winter reductions; school service 51s will be renumbered to 125s at the request of North Somerset Council; and there will be an increased network of services for Weston College on college days, with a new service X18 from Nailsea, X21 from Bridgwater and X12 from Filton.
Rob Pymm, Commercial Director for First Bus in the West of England, said “These changes will simplify our Weston network whilst improving access to Bristol and restoring important local connections like Saturday buses for Bleadon Hill.
“Together with our investment in zero-emission electric buses operating from our Weston depot, these changes are improving services for customers in North Somerset and beyond, and helping more people choose the bus to travel sustainably more often.”
There are also changes to other services, and passengers are advised to check timetables before travelling from 31st August. Full details are available on the First Bus website.
