First Bus invests in York Park and Ride to support Christmas shoppers and traders
- More frequent services and fresh timetables from Sunday 8 November
First Bus is introducing a better and more frequent timetable on the York Park and Ride, which it operates jointly with City of York Council, to support visitors, shoppers and traders in the lead-up to Christmas.
The changes begin on Sunday 8 November in readiness for the opening of the famous York Christmas Market on 12 November and the appeal of the city’s many festive attractions and events.
The improved frequencies to also include Sundays are:
- Service 2 (Rawcliffe Bar) every 8-10 minutes
- Service 3 (Askham Bar) every 8-15 minutes
- Service 7 (Designer Outlet) every 7-10 minutes
- Service 8 (Grimston Bar) every 8-13 minutes
- Service 9 (Monks Cross) every 10-15 minutes
- Service 59 (Poppleton Bar) every 13-17 minutes
The revised timetables will also operate during the Tuesday ‘rest days’ of the market.
Steve Moyle, General Manager of First Bus in York, said: “We know how much visitors and local people enjoy the festive season in the city. Our investment in more services on the Park and Ride network is designed to help make travel around York easier during this really busy period and reduce car traffic into the city centre, which will benefit everyone.”
The Park and Ride timetables have been adjusted to improve reliability with alterations modelled on passenger demand seen last year.
All six Park and Ride sites in York are open from 5.30am to 10.45pm and with free parking. Three children aged 16 and under travel free when accompanied by an adult paying the standard £4.00 fare for a return journey.
Councillor Kate Ravilious, Executive Member for Transport at City of York Council, said: “Our Park and Ride services are amongst the best in the country, offering a quick and easy way of getting in and out of the city.
“York is an incredibly popular place to visit over the festive season and we’re keen that people travel in a way that’s convenient, affordable, and keeps the whole city moving. We’re looking forward to what could be a record-breaking Christmas period and now with greater frequency, passengers will never have to wait long for the next Park and Ride.”
