First Bus continues coach sector growth with acquisition of J&B Travel Limited

FirstGroup, parent company of First Bus, has confirmed the acquisition of Leeds-based coach operator J&B Travel Limited, in a move that further strengthens its position in the UK coach market and signals continued interest in strategic sector growth.

The long-established operator employs approximately 25 colleagues and runs a fleet of around 15 modern, wheelchair-accessible coaches, delivering private school transport, contract work, private hire and services for FlixBus, for whom it operates dedicated vehicles. All employees, including general manager Paul Lynn, will continue to work for J&B Travel.

First Bus described the acquisition as a natural fit, with J&B Travel’s high-quality fleet and reputation complementing its existing coach operations across the UK.

Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director, Business & Coach for First Bus, said: “This acquisition underlines our commitment to growing our coach division and building long-term partnerships across the sector. J&B Travel Limited is a respected operator with an excellent safety and service record, and we’re pleased to be bringing the team on board. We remain open to exploring further opportunities where businesses align with our values and strategic focus.”

Paul Lynn, General Manager for J&B Travel Limited, said: “We are proud of the reputation we’ve built and the loyal customer base we’ve served over the years. Joining First Bus is the right step for our business and our people, giving us the backing of a major operator while keeping the strengths that make our service what it is. I’m looking forward to continuing to lead the team as part of First Bus.”

All existing contracts and services will continue unchanged, with First Bus providing additional support and resources to ensure continuity for customers and partners.

The acquisition forms part of First Bus’s broader strategy to expand its coach portfolio and enhance its presence in key UK regions.
