Arriving at the stadium

First Bus and Huddersfield Town team up with first match experience for young fans

  • Special bus trip on Saturday 8 November for Plymouth Argyle fixture
  • Children from Dewsbury area get chance to see a game for the first time

Children from Thornhill Junior & Infant School in Dewsbury enjoyed a special bus ride on Saturday 8 November, making the trip to experience their first ever match day at Huddersfield Town!

The trip was arranged by First Bus and the team at Huddersfield Town, teaming up to support access to sports and culture in disadvantaged surrounding areas.

Pupils aged 4-11, along with their parents, boarded the electric bus, loaned from the operator’s Bramley depot, to make the journey to Huddersfield’s Accu Stadium for the game against Plymouth Argyle.

The vehicle was one from the largest fleet of zero emission buses in West Yorkshire. Each child was given a copy of Tinyfoot and Evie’s Adventure to Tiny Street, a storybook published by First Bus to help young minds begin to think about the environment and green choices. They also received a soft toy of the book’s electric bus character, Evie, along with a gift bag provided by the club.

Arriving at the stadium, the children were greeted by First Team player, David Kasumu, along with staff from both First Bus and Huddersfield Town, before being shown to their seats to watch Town secure a 3-1 win!

Callum Limb, Partnerships Manager at Huddersfield Town, said: "It’s great to team up with First Bus on initiatives such as this that genuinely benefit the wider community. Working together to offer free travel and match tickets is a fantastic way to help more people experience what our club is all about.

“We share a strong commitment with First Bus to supporting our local communities and it’s brilliant to see that come to life through activities like this.”

Joe Morphet from First Bus added: “Working with the club in communities is a new aspect of our partnership. This gave us the opportunity to bring a first-time experience to the children and their reaction to the trip was fantastic. It was a real joy to see their excitement as we arrived at the stadium.

“Taking the bus is the way to get to a game for plenty of fans and we hope this will encourage these children to do so as they get older.”
