First Bus advises customers of diversions in Weymouth due to Dorchester Road closure

  • Road fully closed from Monday 19 October
  • Gas mains works to last until March 2027
  • Services 2, 10 and X51 to use alterative route

First Bus is reminding customers in Weymouth and the surrounding area that the long-term closure of Dorchester Road from Monday 19 October will mean diversions to three of its services.

The road is being closed to allow gas mains replacement to be carried out by Scotia Gas Networks and will continue until March 2027 with a break over the festive season.

Details of the diversions to First Bus Services 2, 10 and X51 can be found on the website https://www.firstbus.co.uk/wessex-dorset-south-somerset/news-and-service-updates/updates/2-10-x51-dorchester-road-phase-1

George Burton, Head of Network for First Bus, said: “We have held discussions with the council highways team to help keep diversions as simple as possible and minimise the disruption to journeys.

“We appreciate the patience and support of our customers while these route changes are in place.”

All works will be suspended over Christmas, from 19 December to 3 January 2027, which will allow the three First Bus Services to return to their normal route.

It is hoped that Dorchester Road will re-open southbound from 4 January 2027, in which case First Bus is making plans to enable buses to operate on this carriageway.

“Customers are advised to check our website for updates and we aim to give as much notice as possible to help with planning journeys,” added George Burton.
